In 2005 the Kamloops Track & Field club hired world renowned throws coach and Doctor of Pedagogical Science, Dr. Anatoliy Bondarchuk.
After the performance by Canadian throwers in the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, the club recruited Athletics Canada to partner with them in creating a National Throws Training Centre under the leadership of Dr. Bondarchuk. In March 2009 Kamloops was named a National throws Centre. The Centre's mandate is to provide coaching and training opportunities to high performance athletes in throwing events in order to improve Canada's podium performance in future international events. This National Throws Training Centre is aligned with Athletics Canada's strategic plan and their commitment to leadership, development and competition ensuring sustainable podium results, with high performance being the key priority.
